As my last furniture project this spring, I completed Bartley's William & Mary Dining Table #0425 in curly maple. This is a beautiful colonial piece with simple but elegant lines and a beautiful curly maple top. As typical for Bartley's kits, the wood and millwork were beautiful. I finished the table top with Moser's Lt Brown Walnut Aniline Dye, Bartley's gel wiping varnish, light sanding with #600 wet sandpaper, steel wool, and wax; while I finished the base with Old Village Satin Black Milk Paint, Bartley's wiping varnish, steel wool, and wax.
The following notes apply:
>>> I water treated and sanded all pieces before assembly
>>> I assembled the kit in accordance with the kit instructions
>>> With one exception, I finished this piece as described in the postings on my other curly maple pieces. After completion of (6) coats of Bartley's gel wiping varnish, and allowing adequate time for it to cure, I lightly sanded the table top with #600 wet sandpaper backed by a cork sanding block. Following this, I rubbed down the table top with Libron's Ultrafine Steel Wool and Howard's Feed-N-Wax.
This is a wonderful kit, with a beautiful curly maple table top. This piece is now the main work table in my library at our home in Hancock, NH.
